What is FootGolf?
Footgolf is a hybrid sport that combines elements of soccer and golf. Players aim to kick a standard soccer ball into a series of oversized holes on a golf course in as few kicks as possible, following rules similar to traditional golf. The game is typically played on specially designed Footgolf courses, which are often adapted from existing golf courses but feature larger holes, usually 21 inches (53 cm) in diameter, to accommodate the soccer ball.
Footgolf emphasizes precision and strategy over physical strength, as players must navigate various obstacles such as bunkers, hills, and water hazards while adhering to par guidelines for each hole. Unlike golf, players kick the ball instead of using clubs, and the ball is played from where it lands after each kick.
The sport is played individually or in teams and is accessible to a wide range of ages and skill levels, making it a family-friendly and inclusive activity. Footgolf is governed internationally by the Federation for International Footgolf (FIFG), which organizes tournaments and sets official rules. The game has grown in popularity worldwide due to its unique blend of skills, social nature, and affordability compared to traditional golf.
